OWL Postal Message #5

INTERESTING CONVERSATION

An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with God, The Almighty. He asks one of his new Christian students to stand and.....

Professor: You are a Christian, aren't you, son?

Student : Yes, sir.

Prof: So you believe in God?

Student : Absolutely, sir.

Prof: Is God good?

Student : Sure.

Prof: Is God all-powerful?

Student : Yes.

Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't.How is this God good then? Hmm?

(Student is silent.)

Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?

Student :Yes.

Prof: Is Satan good?

Student : No.

Prof: Where does Satan come from?

Student : From...God...

Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?

Student : Yes.

Prof: So who created evil?

(Student does not answer.)

Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?

Student :Yes, sir.

Prof: So, who created them?

(Student has no answer.)

Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe theworld around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?

Student: No, sir.

Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?

Student : No , sir.

Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God?Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science saysyour GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Prof: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Prof: Yes.

Student : No sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold.We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't goany further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word weuse to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold.Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light , bright light, flashing light....But if youhave no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it?In reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make darknessdarker, wouldn't you?

Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God.You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure.Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death a sthe opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as asubstantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it.Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where theargument is going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you notteaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class is in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?

(The class breaks out int o laughter.)

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it?.....No one appears to have done so.So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrableprotocol, science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his faceunfathomable.)

Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir.. The link between man & God is FAITH.That is all that keeps things moving & alive.

**** THE END ****

"Before a new chapter begins, the old one has to be finished; Tell yourself that what has passed will never come back. Remember that there was a time when you could live without that thing or that person -- Nothing is irreplaceable, A habit is not a need... Closing cycles... Not because of pride, incapacity or arrogance, but simply because that no longer fits your life. Stop being who you were, and change into who you are."

-- Paulo Coelho

When I was young and naive,

I thought that life is just black and white,

Yes or No,

Right or Wrong.

If you open your mind,

You'll realize that life is more of gray;

Maybe, in betweens,

Life is no straight road ahead.

It's more of dangerous curves

And unexpected detours.

Live life to the fullest.

Enjoy life.

Take risks.

Expect the unexpected.

Fight to win.

But learn to accept defeat.

All at once,

I'm drifting in a lonely sea.

Holding onto memory,

And its all that matters now.

All at once,

I'm drifting in a lonely sea.

Wishing you'd come back to me.

And it hurts me more than you know.

So much more that it shows.

All at once....

Did you know that...

Many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented.
it was ruled "Gentlemen Only. Ladies Forbidden" thus, the word
GOLF came about.

The first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time TV
were FRED and WILMA FLINSTONE.

COCA-COLA was originally green.

It's impossible to lick your elbow!

In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames
by ropes. When you pull on the ropes, matts tightened, making
the bed firmer to sleep on. Hence the phrase:
"GOOD NIGHT, SLEEP TIGHT."

Things happen for a reason,

We lost the people we love because
it was not meant for us to keep.

But sometimes we lost the love that is
meant for us to because it's God's way of
making us realize its worth and learn
how to keep its importance forever.

Because sometimtes we have to feel
so much pain and great lost to learn and
appreciate people who never get tired of
loving us.

If you have lost a love that is meant for you
to keep, find time to give your best in
winning it back.

'Coz God will make his way, to give it back
to you, if He sees that you have learned the
lesson of appreciation.

Darknes cannot drive out darkness;
Only light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out hate;
Only love can do that.

Hate multiplies hate;

Violence multiplies violence, and

Toughness multiplies toughness in a descending
spiral of destruction;

The chain reaction of evil...

Hate begetting hate...

What would you do?

Ask yourself then....

OWL Mobile Message #29

A great life is not routine but doing something rare.

To cherish and not to compare.

To forgive, not to blame;

And to be loving without counting.

Laugh at your mistakes but learn from them.

Joke over your troubles but gather strength from them.

Have fun with your difficulties but overcome them.

Take chances, take a lot of them.
Because honestly, no matter where you end up
And with whom, it always ends up just the way it should be.
Your mistakes make who you are.
You learn to grow with each choices you make
Everything is worth it.
Say how you feel always.
Be you, and be okay with it.

OWL Mobile Message #25

There are things we regret,
words we wish had gone unsaid,
starts that had bitter endings,
chances we threw away,
roads we should have never taken,
signs we didn't see,
hearts we hurt needlessly,
and wounds we wish we could mend.

But life gets that much harder,
the past can't be rewritten,
But, it can make you stronger.

Be thankful for every change life has thrown you,
For every break in your heart,
For every scar.

Some pages were turned,
Some bridges were burned,
But you had lessons learned.

Quotes to Live By:

It's better to eat soup with someone you love,
than steak with someone you hate.

Respect cannot be learned, purchased or acquired,
it can only be earned.

You can live to be a hundred if you give up all things that
make you want to live to be a hundred.

Work like you don't need the money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like nobody is watching.

Kind hearts are the gardens,
Kind thoughts are the roots,
Kind words are the flowers,
Kind deeds are the fruits.

"BE THANKFUL"

Be thank ful that you don't everything you desire,
If you need, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful for the difficult times,
It's during those times you grow...

Be thankful for your limitations because they give
you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for your mistakes,
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
And they can become your blessings.

OWL Mobile Message #22

Sometimes you will feel like you just wanna cry all day,

Collect all the pain the whole day brought you,

Fill your heart with anger,

Internalize every tear that fell from your eyes,

And feel numb about it,

When this happens, close your eyes,

And cry as much as you want to...

And end it with a smile.

Life is tough,

but...

Prove that you're tougher.

OWL Mobile Message #21

"... a broken heart is the single greatest pain you will ever have to endure. In fact, the most hurt you can ever imagine, and the one who commits this emotional crime is not someone you hate; it is not even someone you dislike. No, because the only person who is capable of breaking your heart is the one who holds it precariously in their hands, the one whom you have shared your dreams, your secrets, your fears. The one you love more than anybody else in the world and therein lies the irony."
